HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai has announced ‘the launch’ of a high-speed rail project, with speeds of up to 350km/h – just shy of half the speed of sound. This service will enable travel times between Abu Dhabi and Dubai to be cut to just 30 minutes, without the expensive speeding ticket bill. A video released on the Etihad Rail social media channels introduces us to Ibrahim Al Hammadi, the first Emirati captain of the Etihad Rail passenger train. Though the model shown in the video is just a prototype – we do learn some fascinating facts about the service: that it will be able to carry up to 400 passengers in business and economy class; despite travelling at speeds of 200kph, the ride remains “calm and comfortable”; there will be wifi on board; there will be F&B on board; and we get a preview of some of the stunning scenery you can expect to see through the panoramic windows on your Etihad Rail journeys (including the Almaha Forests of Fujairah).
